Nusa Dua, BALI, September 2019 – Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa Chefs participated in the prestigious culinary fruit carving competition. They competed for the title of Grand Champion of Fruit Carving. There was a total of eight Hotels participating in the competition on 22nd September 2019 during the local Bualu Culture Festival 2019.
The Bualu Culture Festival 2019 offers a wide range of interesting competitions, activities and local entertaining cultural activities. One of the activities was the Fruit Carving Competition. Teams of two participants who worked together over a period of 90 minutes were given the freedom to come up with their own creation and theme. Each team was given a watermelon, a papaya and a radish to be used as the main material for their sculptures. The carvings were evaluated by experienced judges comprising of Head Chefs from the Bualu region. Each sculpture was judged on design, composition, technical skills, difficulty, creativity and originality. Also team work and hygiene standards were taken into account.
Chef Prema’s and Chef Harry’s artistic skills turned the fruits and vegetables into a “flying fish” display aptly named “Fly, be free”. This spectacular piece of art earned Chef Prema & Chef Harry the first place out of 25 participants.
